Description: Grace Amuzie is a Catalyst for Change in Education and Environmental Sustainability, Born and raised in Ajegunle, Lagos—a densely populated slum where poverty is rampant—Grace Amuzie’s journey has been marked by both hardship and transformation. Ajegunle is a community where over 70% of families live below the poverty line, with limited access to quality education, healthcare, and basic amenities. Growing up in such conditions, Grace was nearly deprived of her education, but the kindness of a sponsor allowed her to break free from the cycle of poverty. This life-changing experience ignited a passion in her to give back to her community, which led to the founding of Isrina Schools in 2016. Isrina Schools, located in the heart of Ajegunle, provides quality education to children between the ages of 1 and 13. The school offers an innovative solution to the financial struggles many families face through the “Recycles Pay” initiative. Launched in 2019, this program allows parents to offset a portion of their children's school fees by collecting recyclable waste such as plastic bottles, glass, and cans. Since its inception, the project has collected thousands of kilograms of recyclable materials, easing financial burdens while promoting environmental responsibility. To date, the initiative has collected over 9,000 kg of PET bottles, 1,054 kg of glass, 1,006 kg of cans, and 1,594 kg of sachet water. Grace’s dedication to her community extends beyond Isrina Schools. She holds leadership roles at Divine Stead Foundation and is a certified Microsoft Educator, focusing on enhancing learning through technology and service. Her efforts have garnered recognition, including the Savvy Prize for Impact-Driven Entrepreneurs, the Nigerian Volunteer Award recipient 2024, An ALforEdu Fellow under the African Leadership Academy, and a nomination for the Eloy Award for Social Entrepreneurs and won the 2024 edition for humanitarian services. Her vision is rooted in the belief that education is the key to breaking barriers and unlocking human potential, transforming both individual lives and the broader community.
