Description: Lawal Abiola Afeez is a public health advocate and a Doctor of Pharmacy graduate from the University of Benin. Over the past five years, he has demonstrated leadership in public health advocacy, research, and policy, with a strong commitment to addressing chronic and infectious diseases in Nigeria and beyond. Through his initiatives as a lead or volunteer, he has reached over 3,000 people directly and more than 8,000 indirectly. He is the Research & Policy Lead for Chronic Disease Mate for Africa (CDMA), where his team recently won the National Cancer Policy Designathon 2025 in Abuja, contributing to shaping Nigeria’s national cancer policy. He is a Wells Mountain Initiative Graduate Scholar (US-based), Millennium Fellow, and Pharma Incubation Hub Fellow. Abiola and his team have also inspired and mobilized over 50 undergraduate champions of the Sustainable Development Goals (particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being) to lead community health projects. He continues to engage young people in antimicrobial resistance advocacy through his work with the African Youth Antimicrobial Resistance Task Force (AYARTF). Abiola dreams of a future where every Nigerian, regardless of location or background, can live free from preventable diseases and enjoy equitable, quality healthcare.
